How to Manually Map a Network Drive on Staff/Faculty Computers

Before You Begin

  • All shared drives not associated with OneDrive accounts begin with:
    \\mercury.tamut.local\shares

Windows Instructions

  1. Open File Explorer

    • Press Windows Key + E, or click the File Explorer icon on your taskbar.

  2. Access Map Network Drive Tool

    • In the left menu, click This PC.

    • At the top, select the Three Dots, then choose Map network drive.

  3. Enter the Path

    • Choose a drive letter (e.g., H: or Z:).

    • In the Folder box, type the root share path (e.g., \\mercury.tamut.local\shares).

  4. Connect Using Your TAMUT Account

    • Ensure Reconnect at sign-in is checked.

    • Click Finish.

    • If prompted, sign in with your EagleID (e.g., firstinitiallastname@tamut.edu) and password.

Optional: Pin Your Department Folder to Quick Access (Recommended)

For easier navigation, you can pin your department’s shared folder so it always appears on the left side of File Explorer.

  1. Open the mapped drive and browse to your specific department folder (e.g., Accounting).

  2. Right-click the folder name.

  3. Select Pin to Quick Access.

  4. The folder will now show under the Quick Access section in File Explorer for one-click access.

Mac Instructions (if applicable on campus)

  1. Open Finder.

  2. From the menu bar, select Go > Connect to Server.

  3. In the Server Address field, enter the full path (e.g., smb://mercury.tamut.local/shares/DepartmentName).

  4. Click Connect and enter your TAMUT credentials if prompted.

  5. The drive will appear on your desktop or Finder sidebar.
