Troubleshooting Your Issues With Gaming-Wifi Devices

Body

To experience good performance on our network with your gaming console, you should use a hard wire connection, and NOT use Wi-Fi.  However, if you would like to join your gaming console to the BLV Tennant Wi-Fi network, you may join it with the password corresponding with your dorm room. Ensure you use the password specifically for your room, as not doing so, will cause network issues.

  • I want to use the Ethernet ports in my room, instead of using the Wi-Fi for my console
    • Hardwire ports are readily available on the RUCKUS router in your dorm room common / living area.  This is recommended for gaming consoles. If you want to use a different port not on the router, i.e. in your personal room, please submit an iSite request under Request a New Service -> Gaming Console-TV Wi-Fi Access, along with a picture of the wall jack (ethernet port) in the desired room.
    • If you require an ethernet cable, you can stop by the service desk in UC 257 to request one.
  • I brought my own router to use, how do I connect it?
    • Personal routers are prohibited since they cause interference and limit channel availability for others.  TAMUT has an enterprise class network, it does not function like a “home” network. You will not be able to use your personal router.
  • I can’t print to my wireless printer. How can I do that?
    • Our wireless network does not support Wi-Fi printing. You will need to attach a USB cable from your printer to your computer in order to print.
  • If you run into any issues not covered by this article, please create an iSite ticket under Report An Issue -> Network
