First-Time Setup

Step 1: Sign In to Microsoft Account Management

  1. Navigate to myaccount.microsoft.com.
  2. Sign in using your EagleID email address in the following format:

    EagleID@tamut.edu

  3. Enter the same password you use to access:
    • Digital Backpack
    • Canvas
    • Microsoft 365 applications
    • Other TAMUT services

Step 2: Configure Security Information

  1. After signing in, select Security Info from the left navigation menu.
  2. Click Add sign-in method.
  3. Configure at least one recovery method.

Recommended Method: Microsoft Authenticator

Microsoft Authenticator provides the most reliable and user-friendly experience for account recovery and multi-factor authentication.

  1. Download the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device.
  2. Follow the prompts to link your TAMUT account.
  3. Complete the verification process.

Alternative Recovery Methods

Students may also configure:

  • Text message verification
  • Phone call verification
  • Alternate email address (if available)

We recommend setting up multiple recovery methods whenever possible.

Step 3: Verify Your Setup

After adding your sign-in methods:

  1. Review the methods listed under Security Info.
  2. Confirm they are accurate and accessible.
  3. Update them anytime your phone number or device changes.

Reset Your Password

If you forget your password:

  1. Go to myaccount.microsoft.com.
  2. Select Can't access your account? or Forgot Password.
  3. Enter your EagleID email address:

    EagleID@tamut.edu

  4. Follow the verification prompts using your configured recovery methods.
  5. Create a new password.

Your new password will be used for:

  • Digital Backpack
  • Canvas
  • Microsoft 365
  • University computers and services

This option is only available if you completed first time set up.

Unlock Your Account

If your account becomes locked due to too many unsuccessful sign-in attempts:

  1. Go to myaccount.microsoft.com.
  2. Attempt the password reset process.
  3. Complete the identity verification steps using your configured recovery methods.

In many cases, completing the recovery process will restore access to your account.

This option is only available if you completed first time set up.

Important Notes

  • Always sign in using your full EagleID email address (EagleID@tamut.edu).
  • The password used for Digital Backpack is the same password used for Microsoft 365 services.
  • Students should configure their recovery methods immediately after receiving their account credentials.
  • We strongly recommend using Microsoft Authenticator as your primary recovery method.
  • Resetting or unlocking your account will not work unless recovery methods are set up.
