Note: This guide is intended for new TAMUT faculty and staff to understand the core IT services, accounts, and tools they will use.

Welcome to Texas A&M University–Texarkana! This article outlines the key technology resources and processes you will use as you begin your role.

Your TAMUT Account & Credentials

Email Format

Your TAMUT email address will follow this format:
firstinitiallastname@tamut.edu
Example: jdoe@tamut.edu

Faculty and staff use Outlook for their official university email.

Account Setup

Your TAMUT account and initial password are created when you visit or call IT. HR cannot provide your password.

During this setup, IT will assist with:

  • Setting your initial password
  • Configuring Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
  • Completing your first login

Password Self-Service

After MFA is configured, password reset and unlock options are available through Office 365’s password reset tools.

Accessing University Systems

Outlook Email

You may access your email via:

Digital Backpack

Your portal to core TAMUT applications:
https://portal.tamut.edu

Workday

Workday is used for payroll, time/leave reporting, and benefits.
Access it via the A&M System SSO portal:
https://sso.tamus.edu

Canvas (Faculty Only)

Canvas is used only by faculty for instructional and course-related activities.

Submit support requests, access knowledge articles, and request IT services at:
https://tamut.teamdynamix.com

University Computers & Standard Software

Most faculty and staff receive a TAMUT-issued computer, preloaded with:

  • Microsoft 365 Suite
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Web browsers
  • Security tools

Additional Equipment

IT can provide, with departmental approval:

  • Extra monitors
  • Docking stations
  • Webcams and headsets
  • Other specialty peripherals as needed
Requesting Software

All software must be vetted by IT before purchase to ensure licensing compliance, security, and compatibility.

To request software, submit a ticket through the IT Service Portal:
IT Service Portal → Request a Service → Information Technology → IT Procurement → Software Vetting/Purchasing

Phones & Communication Tools

TAMUT uses physical desk phones for office communication.

A Sangoma soft phone can also be configured on your workstation or mobile device if needed.

Microsoft Teams is available for:

  • Chat
  • Video meetings
  • File collaboration

Teams is not used as a phone system at TAMUT.

File Storage & Shared Drives

OneDrive (Recommended)

OneDrive is recommended for storing and sharing your work files securely.

SharePoint & Teams

Many departments use SharePoint sites or Teams channels for shared, collaborative documents.

Legacy Mercury Shared Drives

Some departments still utilize legacy Mercury shared drives. IT can assist with access and configuration.

Eagle Secure Wi-Fi

Faculty and staff use Eagle Secure for wireless network access.

TAMUT-issued devices should already be configured for Eagle Secure.

Classroom Technology (Faculty Only)

Depending on the assigned classroom, faculty may use:

  • Projectors or flat-panel displays
  • Extron control panels
  • Document cameras
  • ScreenBeam wireless presentation

For assistance, troubleshooting, or training on classroom technology, submit a request through the IT Service Portal.

IT offers support through:

  • Walk-in assistance in UC 257
  • Phone and email support via the IT Service Desk
  • Knowledge Base articles in the IT Service Portal
  • Scheduled training sessions for departments and teams
